Cre Maurico Pochettino Lionel Messi is expected to win this year’s Golden Ball as he has been named one of the top three family-looking, while he remains confident Paris Saint-Germain can convince Kylian Mbappe to stay.

The selection of 30 men for this year’s award was announced last Friday, with Chelsea’s Champions League winning duo N’Golo Kante and Jorginho already winning the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award, among the favorites.

But Pochettino still feels Messi is the best player on the planet by some margin, despite a somewhat disappointing campaign with Barcelona last season, while Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski complete their top three.

Pochettino said he has been named his winner of this year’s award, which will be revealed next month The Great Party of the COPE on Wednesday night: ‘The Golden Ball should go to Messi without a doubt.

‘And if I hadn’t coached Messi, I would still say Messi. I answer with my heart. I always say how I feel.

“Lewandowski and Cristiano would have to be on the podium with him.”

Interestingly, despite not naming any Chelsea player in his own Golden Ball standings, Pochettino still believes West Londoners are the favorites to keep the Champions League this season.

He added: “The favorite to win the Champions League is Chelsea, more than anything because I am the current champion.”

For his part, this season could be Mbappe’s last in the Parc des Princes with the contract expiring next summer, although Pochettino is still waiting for the French striker to entrust his future to PSG.

He continued: “Mbappe is fine, he is a calm guy, with a lot of personality and a very sociable character, he is clear about things and he loves football, he is 22 years old very mature.

“Kylian will make the decision he has to make and the club will do everything possible to keep him, because we took one of the best players in the world at 22 years old.”

“I am left with the fact that the situation is open and in the future anything can happen, the position of a few months ago may change in the future.

“PSG as a club certainly have the ambition and the ability to persuade him and offer him things so that he can stay and be happy, the chances that he can change his mind are there.”
