Conor Gallagher thanks Patrick Vieira after the unusual reverence of the Chelsea star in England

Midfielder Gallagher has received excellent reviews at Crystal Palace this season and now has the distinction of making his international debut ahead of his first appearance for Chelsea’s first team.

Conor Gallagher made his England debut this week

Conor Gallagher thanked Patrick Vieira for helping him make a breakthrough in England.

The Chelsea midfielder turns 22 in February but has yet to appear on Stamford Bridge’s first team.

But he made his international debut Monday night when he replaced Kalvin Phillips for the second half of the San Marino massacre.

And Gallagher was quick to pay tribute to Scallop, who oversaw Gallagher’s brilliant start to the Premier League season, on loan at Crystal Palace.

Gallagher said: “Working under Patrick is amazing. He was one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, so learning from him is brilliant.

“It helps me a lot, tactically, and most importantly, what’s really good is how you know my strengths and tell me what I need to do about it.

“That means I’m allowed to do the frame and do what I do best, which is part of the reason I had a good start to the season.”

With Gareth Southgate unafraid to select players who had to leave on loan, Gallagher could still be part of Southgate’s plans for the World Cup.

But the 21-year-old knows it will be a tricky task, saying: “I have seen the quality and quantity of good players on this team is amazing, the talent is very, very high. It will be a difficult team to get into.

“I’m just thinking this season with Crystal Palace, doing the best I can for them and doing the best I can in the Premier League.

“It simply came to our notice then.

“And if I keep doing well with them and keep scoring a few goals, there is a chance of being on this England team.”
